This comprehensive volume is designed to bring clinicians who use hypnosis in their practices, in-depth information on the biology of hypnosis and its use in medicine, dentistry, pain prevention and pain management. Based on works presented at the 6th Annual Frontiers of Hypnosis Assembly held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, this material has been extensively rewritten for this volume. In addition, chapter 12 is a research report following over 40 years of practice which will bring the reader up-to-date with the benefits of using hypnosis in obstetrics, labor and delivery, and preterm labor treatment. Emphasis is placed on pain prevention and the prevention of premature delivery by teaching the pregnant patient self-hypnosis.
