Partying until sunrise, baptism under ice, dead bodies on the street, treachery in business dealings - everyday life for an expatriate working in Russia.
Caviar, Vodka and Tears recounts the joys and frustrations of life and work in Russia over the period 2008 to 2022, through the eyes of the fictitious expatriate Keller family. The Kellers establish many deep friendships with ordinary Russians, and have many extraordinary adventures.
Keller's business ventures meet initial success but become harder as relations with the West worsen, and end in treachery and apparent disaster. However, when the conflict in Ukraine erupts in 2022, his failure is revealed as a godsend, and he is forced to reassess his past role in developing Russia's energy industry.
The author worked in Moscow for many years, living life to the full and gaining a deep understanding of Russian culture. At top-level business meetings, he saw first-hand how Putin's changing view of the West influenced the decisions of Russia's elite. He wrote this book to record the many good, as well as the bad, aspects of the country and its people, with a hope that better understanding will one day lead to better relations.
This book is essential and entertaining reading for anyone trying to understand contemporary Russia.

Über den Autor
Stuart Bradford spent 32 years working in the energy industry, a career that included many different expatriations. His family were essential companions in all this globe-trotting - always ready to try new experiences, and in the case of his wife, manage the logistics of the move. The two postings that made the most impact on the family were the ones in Moscow, over 2008-9 and 2013-19, a time that saw the steady deterioration of Russia's relations with the West. Stuart's writing career came late and started when he took over responsibility for the family's travel blog Trouspinet Travels ([...] written from the perspective of our teddy bear Trouspinet. Encouraged by feedback from friends and family he embarked on the more ambitious work "Caviar Vodka and Tears" that you hold in your hands or are reading on your electronic device. The book seeks to do many things - describe the joys and frustrations of life in Russia, the difficulties and moral ambiguities of working there, and correct the misconceptions about the country and its people prevalent in the West.
