With a preface from Dr. Todd Ruddell of Whitefield Theological Seminary, these new volumes brought to print enable the Reformed world to access Francis Roberts' work afresh - newly typeset for the first time in over 380 years, and edited only for readability.
In this first volume, Roberts introduces us to Covenant Theology in general, demonstrating from Scripture and reason how before the Fall, God entered into a Covenant of Works with Adam in his initial state of holiness and righteousness. Robert then shows how, after Adam fell and could no longer restore the broken Works-Covenant, only a Covenant of Faith or Grace could bring him into a restored relationship with God - and this by means of the promise of the seed of the woman, namely: Jesus Christ.
After Roberts explores the Covenant of Faith as expressed to Adam, he moves onto discussing the Covenant of Faith as God expressed it to Noah in the Covenant's second administration.
Quoting copiously from Calvin, Perkins, Augustine, and others, as well as regularly citing Scripture, Roberts' volumes contain several thousand footnotes: 2461 of which can be found in Volume 1 alone. Original Hebrew, Greek, and Latin phrases have been preserved.
