Beschreibung
In this, his candid-and at times, highly comical-memoir, Menno Ratzker takes us on the journey of a lifetime. From his early years, hidden from the Nazis by the Dutch underground, through his career as a globe-trotting trader of metal commodities, Menno delivers an intimate and insightful portrait of a life well-lived.
His story demonstrates how a strong work ethic results in professional success and how a devotion to one's family produces unparalleled joy and nachas.
Ultimately, such blessings developed within in him a strong sense of gratitude that is manifested by his lifelong work as a synagogue lay leader and a humanitarian philanthropist in behalf of such organizations as the Shaare Tzedek Hospital in Israel.
After reading this inspiring and irreverent chronicle you will understand why Menno Ratzker proclaims "I'm Glad I Got This Far." And, at that point, you will be glad as well.

Über den Autor
Born into the same expatriate German Jewish community in Amsterdam that was home to Anne Frank's family, Menno Ratzker survived the Holocaust thanks to his father's wise decision to take the family into hiding in the Dutch countryside once the Nazi deportations began in mid-1942.
Arriving to the U.S. in 1947, nine-year-old Menno grew up in the German-Jewish "Yekkie" community of Washington Heights, New York. His path took him from the Catskills to the Army Reserve and then employment in the burgeoning metal commodity industry.
Both as a globe-trotting steel trader with Philipps Brothers (Phibro) and later on his own, Menno achieved professional success on a worldwide scale.
Throughout it all, Menno has devoted his life to observance of Jewish tradition, serving as a top lay leader at Modern Orthodox synagogues as well as a key supporter of Shaare Zedek, Jerusalem's largest hospital.
Menno and his wife, Helen, have been the recipients of numerous awards on honors recognizing their commitment and philanthropic support. They are the parents of three sons, ten grandchildren, and (as of 2022) two great-grandchildren.
Menno and Helen live in Bal Harbour, Florida.
