Beschreibung
Fourteen-year-old Iranian-American Parvin Mohammadi sets out to win the ultimate date to homecoming in this heartfelt and outright hilarious debut. Now in paperback.

Parvin Mohammadi has just been dumped-only days after receiving official girlfriend status. Not only is she heartbroken, she's humiliated. Enter high school heartthrob Matty Fumero, who just might be the smoking-hot cure to all her boy problems. If Parvin can get Matty to ask her to Homecoming, she's positive it will prove to herself and her ex that she's girlfriend material after all. There's just one problem: Matty is definitely too cool for bassoon-playing, frizzy-haired, Cheeto-eating Parvin. Since being herself hasn't worked for her in the past (see aforementioned dumping), she decides to start acting like the women in her favorite rom-coms. Those women aren't loud, they certainly don't cackle when they laugh, and they smile much more than they talk.

But Parvin discovers that being a rom-com dream girl is much harder than it looks. Also hard? The parent-mandated Farsi lessons; a confusing friendship with a boy who's definitely not supposed to like her; and hardest of all, the ramifications of the Muslim ban on her family in Iran. Suddenly, being herself has never been more important.

Zusammenfassung
STELLAR RECEPETION: Perfectly Parvin has already received two starred trade reviews and has landed on several most anticipated and must read lists for Buzzfeed, Refinery29, Brightly, BookRiot, and United by Pop for the spring and summer.

HILARIOUS, VOICE-DRIVEN YA: Parvin's humorous and oh so original voice is a key selling point. The writing is both pacey and direct while still managing to be heartfelt and impactful. Readers will not be able to put this book down.

REAL WORLD INSPIRATION: Partially inspired by the author's own experience growing up in suburban D.C. in an Iranian-American family, Parvin's voice is in many ways also Olivia's. We have a star debut author here who has personality in spades and will be great on interviews, panels, and classroom visits.

TIMELY THEMES: The Muslim Ban plays a key role in the story and Parvin's experiences as a biracial teenager in a xenophobic political environment provoke empathy. Perfectly Parvin explores the impact of immigration policies from a young teenager's point-of-view and the effect it can have on families and cultural identities.

INCLUSIVE AND COMPELLING CAST OF CHARACTERS: While Parvin's voice is still the star of the show, the other characters are gender inclusive and racially diverse and shine with their socially aware, progressive mentalities. Secondary characters are thoughtful, supportive, and kind, a depiction we could all use more of in media representations of teens.

YOUNG YA: Gatekeepers will be thrilled to have this impactful, hilarious, and also clean YA book to recommend to a wide age range but especially for younger teen readers.

TALENTED AUTHOR'S DEBUT: Perfectly Parvin will be Olivia's debut book and as the winner of the 2018 New Visions Award she will have her second YA book come out with Lee & Low in Fall 2021.

MORE ON THE WAY: We have another YA novel signed up with this talented author set for publication in Spring 2023 for which we'll include a teaser for in this paperback.
