Beschreibung
Anchored to both the author's more than 20 years of experience in Clinical Psychology and her own experience being raised by a severely OCD mother, this story of family and relationships blends the genres of memoir and self-help while retaining the classic and best elements of storytelling - the protagonist, the antagonist, plot, emotion, and journey.
It is a story about the ways a mother's mental illness reverberates through a family, told from a compassionate perspective that doesn't withhold the painful truths necessary to an honest and realistic narrative. Parental mental illness is fundamentally damaging to a child's ability to grow and develop into a healthy, well adjusted adult, and OCD parenting in particular is damaging in unique and lasting ways that this book identifies and illustrates, and then directs the reader toward growth and healing.
The author not only shares a story to which so many can relate, but also offers specific guidance to others navigating the healing journey to live a happier and more harmonious life, as she has done for herself and with her patients.
