An appropriate and imaginative choice of wood can really bring your work to life, and the more you understand about the raw material, the closer you can come to realizing your vision. This book describes 42 of the world's most important woods for turning. It has been written specifically for woodturners by expert turner Mark Baker, and goes into great detail with regard to physical characteristics, working qualities and availability. Color photographs throughout illustrate different varieties of grain and figure, and there are attractive examples of finished work to provide you with inspiration. More than 100 other woods are considered more briefly. This revised edition of Wood for Woodturners is fully updated with new images and resources. There is also valuable advice on buying and seasoning timber, sustainability and a handy guide to wood terminology.

Mark Baker has always been fascinated by wood. His father was a carpenter and joiner and, on leaving school, Mark served a five-year apprenticeship working for a local building firm, which included restoration work. Mark has also helped set up an industrial workshop for autistic adults and he has worked for some of the major manufacturers of woodturning tools in the UK. He is now the editor of Woodturning magazine and the group editor of all GMC Publications woodworking magazines. Previous books include Woodturning Projects: A Workshop Guide to Shapes, Wood for Woodturners and Wood Turning: A Craftman's Guide, all published by GMC Publications.
